Gnat Today - Fungus Gnat Treatment
Dealing with Fungus Gnats? Yeah a few years ago we were as well, so naturally, we looked into it and found the best solution.
Now to understand how to get rid of gnats, you need to know how a Gnat….gnats. Long story short: an adult fungus gnat lays eggs in your substrate, they hatch into nematode style larvae, the larvae groaws and changes into an adult fun gus gnat and the cycle repeats.
So why dont all treatments work?
Well most “cures” to fungus gnats simply focus on getting rid of the adults……after they have laid eggs in the substrate. So you spend the money on the product, use the product, get rid of the adults and then become suprised when the babies change into adult gnats and repeat the cycle. So you do too, buying more solutions. It’s stressfull, temporary, looks unsightly often and can harm other animals.
So why does this one work?
Well this treatment works because its systemic, meaning it solves the problem at the source. This treatment kills the gnat larvae, not the adults. So although you dont see the immediate results of no adults, after routine application, you can expect to see drastic reductions in numbers by the end of two weeks, if not already eradicated. If more eggs hatch, they die, if more adult come and lay eggs, they hatch and die. So naturally once the existing adults die off or are removed, no more gnats……gnat today.
So what exactly is it?
Now this is what makes it special. All over the world, on nearly every landmass, there is a bacteria called Bascillus thuringiensis. Naturally occuring and always present. Now what’s really cool is a specific species of this bacteria (Bascillus thuringiensis israelensis) actually eats fungus gnat larvae as its main food source. Being a naturally occuring bacteria it is safe and compatible with aquatic, reptilian, amphibian and invertebrate species. Making it great for use in terrariums and vivariums as it is also plant safe. By routinely treating your substrate with this bacteria, you end the fungus gnat breeding cycle. Once ended you can even apply doses on a less frequent basis as a preventative measure.
What comes in the pack?
We send you 5 sachets of the powedered bacteria, pre-weighed out to be added to 1L of water. That water can then be used to mist wants, water plants, add to aquarium water bodies etc. Thats 5 litres of treatment for you to use from this one purchase. We cant say how long 5 sachets will last you as we don’t know what you’re doing however 1L is enough to treat 25 5L isopod bins from personal experience if that helps!
Sent via Australia post untracked mail in an envelope if purchased alone or seperately, otherwise it is posted however the other items in your shopping cart dictates.
